Is it necessary to have Windows server 2003 later?? Can not I install on windows XP??? Please let me know urgently?

You can also install it in XP,Vista,Win7 for developement.  Please see the documentations for instructions.

you may use XP Pro for development purposes, I suggest using free IIS Admin from www.jetstat.com/jetadmin to setup local sites.

 If you are developing in DNN you should use the source package
