please make sure, both sites use same version of .Net framework and default.aspx as default document. you need to add the new address as additional portal alias prior to the move or directly inside the database, table portal alias.

hey guys,

I've get stuked here at this point:

I've run the copied project at my new machine (laptop) that gave me the installation page as a startup page, so I've went through like I am insalling my project as I've done at the fisrt time on the forst machine, it's like a new installation for the same project but on another machine, and It did installed successfully, and we should notice here that I still havn't yet restored the database because it gaves me then a "Falure action" or something like that at the final step, so I think that I should first go through the ordinary steps installaing my copied project at the new machine, declaring the database as empty one, then after I've finished the install, the project did run but with empty pages (the template isn't there, DUHH! sure because I did added some new pages on my project) the idea here now I want to restore my DB ok so I restored it  and rerun the project but BOOM a number of errors shown up here:

1) some procedures are missing because of the object qulifire prefix name,

2)  I tried to work arounf it by restoreing the same object qulifire but still have not work... it gaves me the install page again and finally failer in creating the DB.

3) I've maintained all about the alias portals, in some try/error cases when i edit in IIS bindings for my project like it in the database, and I run my project using the VS the IIS gave the project another random port number, ok I add the portal to the DB and rerun the project but the IIS again gives another random port number, DAHH!!  I don't know how many times to loop over and over agian like that...

I don't know I am stuck here, I need a best practices scenario guys...

Thanks in advnace

if you encounter the DNN install wizard after a move, there is an issue with the database connection, stop immediately, make sure the machinekey in web.config has not been altered and adjust both (uncommented) connection strings - and validate database connection, e.g. by accessing via SSMS or another tool.

I'm trying to centralize the misunderstanding issue here, and that what i've tried:

 - the machine key is the same
 - the web.config connection string and key were updated to fit the new connection initials
 - the DB is accessible thorugh the login user I've created to access the DB, I logged into my DB using that User as DB_Owner
 - I've added the automatic portal ID, that it gives me when the project runs, to the (HTTP Alias) in the PortalAlias table.
 - the project is added to the IIS manager with the new IP mentioned above, but here when I call the website throught that IP it gaves me "the resource cannot be found", ok I run the project using VS but it also gave me "the resource cannot be found" we should notice here that the VS ran the website under another portal ID that it gave me at the first time, may be that's becasue I configuerd the my website under IIS to use it so the VS searched for another one, so I'm walking on loops here... ok I've added the new portal ID to my PortalAlias table and rerun the project using the VS  but it gave me the following erre:

{{{ string sql = String.Concat("Update {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}PortalLocalization Set LoginTabId=NULL Where PortalId=", portalSettings.PortalId); }}}

so what else to check ?
