Hi:

My first trial with Multinlanguage websites on DNN.

How to work with localization in DNN?

For the controls, that can be solved with the resoruce files. But what about the menu?

What about the content in Text-HTML modules?

Thanks,

you will need 3rd party modules, have a look at www.apollo-software.nl and dnn.tiendaboliviana.com.

Try DSLocalizator from my website. It can do a lot of things for you and it is free.

You can Localize Menus, all tab properties, all module properties, All portal settings properties, etc

You can

  • Customize you logo per language and per page
  • Customize you skin or admin skin per tab, per module and based on current selected language (Currently. This is the only way to have a different admin skin per module no matter if you need localization or not)
  • Use a template based locale selector (Flags, images, etc)
  • All localized properties are optional
  • You ca enable/disable various methods for localization and set the detection order
  • You can change tab visibility based on locale (You can use one tab for Spanish and one tab for English) the system will allow you to redirect you page based on selected locale
  • You can hide modules based on selected locale (To make easy to use modules without support for localization)

Also... this module includes a set of features for response time optimization

Now, For content, there is another module at my site called MMLinks (Another free tool). This module is a template based merge of links and text/html. You can do almost everything with this module. Visit my site a you will see that 90% of the site is built using MMLinks.

MMLinks supports localization at every part (Templates, content, properties)

and...if you note that cool effects on my site..... MMLinks is responsible for that too.

The DSLocalizator looks good. I am going to try it. I browsed your site and noticed that you do support unique urls for each localized page. I have a couple of questions here:

1. Does this support page title localization?

2. Is that possible or can you consider using "language" instead of "locale" as the url path? For example change:

http://dnn.tiendaboliviana.com/web/Modulesandresources/Modules/DSLocalizator/tabid/75/Locale/en-US/default.aspx

into:

http://dnn.tiendaboliviana.com/web/Modulesandresources/Modules/DSLocalizator/tabid/75/Language/en-US/default.aspx

Thanks!

1) Yes

2) Yes, you can define your own string if you want. It is fully configurable
