Hi, I have set up a few DNN sites. I have been asked to set up a new DNN site (5.5) where there are say 10 - 12 partners involved. A specification is for a partner to upload docs to their own folder, which they have full access permissions on. i.e. upload and delete files from this folder. but other Partners can only view files in other Partners folders. Basically anything a Partner uploads (files) they can delete, but only view files in other Partners folders, not able to delete other Partners files. I have set this up via the DNN Documents Module.

I have assigned a Role for each partner, with Users assigned to these Roles. In the File manager I have added a folder for each partner, named as per Partner company name. The specific Partner has full permissions (open, browse and write) whilst all other Partners have open and browse permissions on a specific company folder. The problem is I can delete these files in all Folders in the documents module. I tried removing the method from the module's Settings, but then can't edit anything. The ideal solution is for the files to appear in the Documents Module, all partners able to download the doc, but only able to edit/delete the files that you uploaded. I know the Professional version may solve this issue, but is too expensive for this project, An expensive module is also out. Can anybody help on this problem?

Thanks

there is a free module at http://userfiles.codeplex.com/ which may suit your needs. Another option is a module from www.ventrian.com

Hi Sebastian, I tried the module BringToMind and it won't install correctly in DNN 5.5, the install file says it has installed successfully, but does not appear in the Module definitions or in the list to add a module. Which Module did you have in mind from www.ventrian.com? There are several and the small fee to download them is cheap. Is there any more modules out there which would fullfill my needs for around $100 or so? I believe I can justify this cost for the functionality. Other than the module route I suppose I could grant an additional "Admin" type of Role for a company/s with extra permissions to edit/delete these files, although not the best solution.

Thanks for any help

there is a module called File Links from ventrian, but you will need to create a folder per user and adjust permissions accordingly. In general, Scott's modules are more than worth the money. Another option would be Document Exchange (DMX) by www.bring2mind.net

Hi Sebastian, I have purchased the modules(File Links) from Ventrian. The File Links module has little documentation that I can see? I was hoping that you could expand on your comment "but you will need to create a folder per user and adjust permissions accordingly". Having installed the module, am i right in thinking that the permissions are set for the module, not a file? Also where it states "select a Folder" for the page occurance of the module, which is a dropdown list, I'm not sure how to link a unique users folder with a user who has logged in and wishes to upload to their specific folder.

Thanks
