Hi,

I have a site running 5.2.2 - was getting an error message when logged in as host and attempting to change user passwords.

The error message is "There was an error setting the password. The password has not been changed."

The password I am entering does meet the requirements in the web.config file - and there are no errors in the event log.

Please note that I upgraded the site to version 5.5.1 on localhost and the error persists.

Can anyone shed a light on why I am unable to change user passwords?  I am also unable to change "my" superuser password.

Thanks in advance.

Did you by chance enable "Require question/answer" for user accounts?

No, that is not enabled.

Here is the section from web.config:

<add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" enablePasswordRetrieval="true"
enablePasswordReset="true"
requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false"
minRequiredPasswordLength="7"
minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0"
requiresUniqueEmail="false"
passwordFormat="Encrypted"
applicationName="DotNetNuke"
description="Stores and retrieves membership data from the local Microsoft SQL Server database"

I have the same problem. My web.config does not require question/answer. But I get this error when I try to change the password through Admin > User Accounts.

 I have imported user accounts using a SQL procedure. The users can log in and browse the DNN website as usual with no issues, all the roles are assigned correctly, portal is assigned. the only problem is, when I try to change the password, I get "There was an error setting the password.  The password has not been changed." If only I knew what was that "Error".

For all the other users which where created through the application, I don't have this problem. What am I missing?

Any help?

Did anyone ever resolve this? I am now getting this error on a DNN 7 site (ugpraded from 5). I couldn't log in even as my host account. I had to register a new user and then using SQL change IsSuperUser to True in order to even login at all and see the settings. In my web.config the entire "Configuration for AspNetSqlMembershipProvider:" is commented out.
