Hello,

I was playing around with a DNN install of mine and I noticed that when I tried to create a similar (but different) account on a different portal than where I created the original account, it tells me that the username is already in use.  It is, but on a DIFFERENT portal!  And if I create a new user with the exact credentials and details, it will create the account.  I noticed that the database is set up so a user can have the same account on different portals because of the "UserPortals" (I might have that name wrong) table.  I thought that portals would be independent so that if you set up a portal for someone, they can have a user sign up with the username "smokey" for example, and on a completely different portal  for someone else (under the same DNN install) a completely different user could sign up with the same "smokey" username.

Does anyone know if there is an option to allow for this or if it can be set up?  I would like to have several portals on one install, but I don't want my users on the portals to be limited by usernames if they are already used on a different portal (which should be seen as a completely separate website to the users).

Thanks,

Kevin

DNN has the database support for users in multiple portals, but not a front end way to do this right now. The only way it occurs is as you've seen, by using the exact same username and password. Otherwise, there is no way to allow duplicate usernames in multiple portals.

Chris,

Is there anything planned in future revisions to allow for the same username in multiple portals and remain separate accounts?

Thanks,

Kevin

"Portal Groups" is a feature on the roadmap, which will for sure affect this behaviour, but I have no information about feature details or the target version.
