Hi,

I can't install DNN 5.5.1 on my Windows 2008 Server box running IIS 7.5. Basically, whilst it's configuring the database, I get a timeout error due to not being able to get a connection from the connection pool. This happens on refresh etc.

If I then try to access the website root again, I get an upgrading screen, which gets to completion, but several steps, and pretty much all the module installations are listed with Error!

I'm not sure what to try now - it just doesn't work for me. Could someone point me in the right direction for a potential cause.

FYI, My current disk permission is everyone Full Access - I figure that with problems like this, security can wait until later!

Cheers.

how many sites are there running on the server? do you have access to the sql server management studio to identify, how may connections are used? did you make sure, both connection strings in your web.config file are identical?

Same issue with me, trying to install 5.5.1. After running db scripts step and it failed, tried delete db and re-add db and went to http://localhost/DotNetNuke/default.aspx, hoping to redo the wizard but got the same connection pool error with [InvalidOperationException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.] System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) +2499521 System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) +1645767 System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() +258 Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText, SqlParameter[] commandParameters) +296 Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, String spName, Object[] parameterValues) +151 DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.GetDataBaseVersion() +101 DotNetNuke.Services.Install.Install.UpgradeApplication() +246 DotNetNuke.Services.Install.Install.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) +335 System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) +132 System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +66 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +2428 Is there somewhere in SQL Server to change this pool number ? How do we recover from this error ? Could someone provide steps here ? Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure, whether this is a connection pool issue. Are there other apps running on the sql server? which sql server version are you using? which connection mode do you use in your web.config?

Hi Sebastian,

I have configured a fresh Windows 2008 Server as a web server, and a different server as a test SQL 2008 Server running on Windows XP (Don't ask!).

The web server is only running 2 websites, one classic asp, and one dotnetnuke, they are running in different application pools.

The dotnetnuke application pool is an Integrated 64 bit pool - there was no difference as far as I can tell when this pool was classic.

The database for this attempt has been configured in 2005 compatibility mode, but that didn't make any difference.

On this last attempt, I got the message "FAILURE ERROR: See C:\UserData\dotnetnuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\05.00.00.log.resources for more information" although there is no such file.

The file "DotNetNuke.Data.log.resources" contains errors about not being able to insert data - on re-attempting, the tables magically gain permissions (I didn't update permissions manually).

The SQL servier is showing 67 active open connections.

Do you have any insight on this?

Thanks for your help.
