67 is quite a lot - all for the new database or for the other one? did you create a blank database and grant dbowner permission to the user specified in your web.config?

Hi Sebastian,

I restarted the database server software, so there were only management threads running prior to the attempt.

My User does have db_owner, in fact they have all permissions on the given database, plus I have added bulk insert permission.

My database server is acting peculiar though - it appears that the tables and functions are being created, but the permissions to access them are not being granted until much later. i.e if I leave the server for a few minutes after tables are generated, the insert, alter, delete permissions are configured.

Why would permission grants be deferred/delayed, surely this should happen as the tables are created!

I am currently rerunning install and it's getting much further, so the only problem would appear to be the delayed permissions coming in on the newly created tables.

I'll let you know if it installs this time.

If you have an idea why my database should be behaving like this, please let me know, I'm an SQL newb and maybe the standard settings need overriding.

Best Regards,

Mark

Hi Sebastian,

Dot Net Nuke, ran and ran and ran, then my web browser came to a halt.

It displayed a long list of "undefined...success" - not sure what's going on - also, no inserts were completed on the database. It must have displayed "undefined...success" about 500 times.

Went back to site root, and first few messages were:

Current Assembly Version: 05.05.01

Current Database Version: 05.00.00

It does the same on another machine, so I'm fully suspecting that my database server is a bit iffy, although I have written a quick vb.net app to connect to it, generate tables, insert data, select etc. and that works, so DNN is doing something different to the norm.

I might try it against our old SQL 2005 server.

Hi All,

I got it working, very strange this though!

Effectively, originally when I created my database, the database owner was "<default>", and I gave the "db_owner" capability to my sql user "dotnetnuketest" using the Security->Logins->dotnetnuketest->User mappings tool.

That didn't work, lots of issues!

This time, when I created my database, I entered "dotnetnuketest" into the database owner field, and it worked first time! It was very quick too, and all the database patch files were correctly named.

All things considered, the fact that the installer didn't really know that things were going wrong is probably a big bug in DNN. And the fact that the "db_owner" permission is not the same as actually being the database owner, and the fact that DNN won't install in this configuration, is a right pain in the arse too.

Sebastian, thanks for looking at this for me, and I hope that my experience solves this issue for other folk too.

Best Regards,

Mark
