Thanks to previous posters here and on the ASP forums, I have managed to get around the problems of accessing the "root" DotNetNuke installation folder.  I can use the ASP-deployed application WebExpress Lite to "view" (what I presume is) my personal installation of DotNetNuke.

Before continuing, you can see what I see by clicking here:

_default view:   http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/5614/nina001pa8qm.jpg

Skins subfolder:   http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/3301/nina002pa7of.jpg

I started to watch Nina's video and she specifically mentions that those using shared hosting with GoDaddy may not be able to use skins.  However, I didn't know if this video was made before a workaround such as the WebExpress Lite workaround.  Before continuing with this excellent video, I'd like to know if I am on the right track.  Now that I do have access to these files, may I proceed to follow her skin instructions?  Or am I doomed to be disappointed in the end, courtesy of GoDaddy?

Thank you very much.

Bingo - that's a great work around!!!

Yes you can upload skins there -

I'm not sure how these apps work - if you can upload the whole folder or not - if you can it's just click and drag the whole folder, if not, create the folder first and then upload the files that way.

Now, if you want to use htm method of skinning, the skin will need to be *parsed* but you can get around this by going to the Admin/Skins area and down the bottom under where the skins are listed you will see the option to reparse them again -you can do this and it will then create the ASCX file for you in situ.

What a great work around  - If you can write to these folders - that's solved the problem for MANY a GoDaddy user.

Thanks for sharing this

What folder did you install WebExplorer Lite into? I uploaded it to my root folder on my GoDaddy account and I don't see the same structure that your jpgs show. I'm still not seeing my dnn folder. Any help is greatly appreciated.

GrfxDan73 --

I like your site.  You need to unzip WexLite locally into its 5 folder/file subcomponents.

Then upload those using any FTP app other than Internet Explorer.
I suggest you first use your FTP program to create a new folder called wexlite, then put the stuff in there.

Where you upload the WexLite files is actually immaterial.  The key is to point the Const wexRoot = "/"
line in the config.asp file to the correct starting subdirectory.  And for that, you need to remember the virtual directory name that you typed way back in the day when you had GoDaddy auto-install DNN for you.  It was a yellow box which asked you for a virtual directory name -- a name which in most cases you have never had a need to know after that point.  (Until now.)

I had GoDaddy install DNN 4.0.2 on the virtual subdirectory y
therefore my config.asp for WexLite says Const wexRoot = "/y"

Also please note (I think you already know this) that you have to change the password in the line
Const wexPassword = "tester"

If you don't remember the name of the virtual directory you typed when DNN was installed, you might call GoDaddy and ask.  Maybe they can tell you.

Thanks,
Travis

Thanks, I'll try that. I do remember the virtual directory. I'll post tomorrow whether or not I got it to work. Thanks for the help.
