Hi,

this is kinda killing me.... I wouldn't mind, but i have to make changes to my DB.

DNN is fine up&running (using SQL Express 2005 on my dev system)

close all browsers - connect to DB with SQL Server Management Studio (full version from my SQL 2005 tools)

make my changes..

SCENARIO 1: SQLMS still attached to the DB

Unhandled Error
Error Details
Error   Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'VENUS\ASPNET'.

SCENARIO 2: DB detached from SQLMS

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )
ERROR: Could not connect to database.
Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'VENUS\ASPNET'

I've worked with SQL Server for years, but not the express editions. Is this a 1 connection thing ???

i'm more concerned about issue 2, i can't connect to the DB anymore... i have to replace it with a backup

Yes, on my SQL2005 box, DNN is accessing the DB, and the DB is attached to the management console with no problem.

thanks for any advice,

Johnny

have a look at SQL Express documentation for proper connect strings. There are different formats for classic SQL Server connect with dbname, user and password and new file based attach.
