After installing DNN 5.05 and going through the entire install with everything being successful after database, host and admin accounts and getting the success page I ran into an error.

The error message is

DotNetNuke Error

Error An error has occurred.
An error has occurred.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

What page do you go to when this occurs?
Is this all you see, or do you see a partial rendering of the page, and part of it states an error has occured?

Thank you,

Kristin;
By any chance to you get something like +Object+Not+Set+To+A+Reference+Of+An+Object appended to the URL in the browser address bar?
If you do not have any error appended on your URLwhat is in the URL in the browser address bar when this happens?

if, can you uncheck "Show Friendly HTTP error messages" and "Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)" in IE under Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced tab
Hopefully doing the above the rehitting the Default.aspx page will throw some errors that will help in finding a solution

there is nothing else in the address bar except default.aspx.  I tried unchecking the options and still nothing.
