No, the whole point was that I followed Mr. Severance's advice and changed the connection to be regular SQL, not .mdf.

So please open the database on SSMS and check of the dbo on the Security - Users have a login added or it is empty.

dbo had all rights.
Anyway, I found the way to make it work. In IIS I moved the site to run as an App under Default Website on port 80 and I gave the App Pool the Local System identity. Too much, probably, but I can afford it on localhost.

if you are using integrated security in connection string within your web.config file, you need to grant SQL Server permission to the Windows account specified for the ASP.Net account in IIS app pool settings.
