We have noticed the following code on our sites:

<input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="

On one of the sites we have the value of this string can be as long as 1500 characters, which slows down the site.  Is there anyway way of disabling the code(without compromising site security) or significantly reducing the size of the code or purging whatever is causing the code within site schedule etc.

Thanks,

David

viewstate is part of ASP.net and holds all states of many controls on your page to be used on a refresh (postback). This might be reduced by optimizing controls, but 3 k is not really large (I have seen pages where it took more than hundred times this size - that was a case to take care of it)
