Hi Sebastian,
Thanks for getting back to me. Let me just be clear about what I mean by DNN Mobile WAP site.
I am building an XHTML-MP site like this http://bit.ly/aIy7z4
It's not the old WAP 1.0 (WML) version but a scaled down version of the bigger Mr. VIDEO html site, WAP 2.0 (XHTML)
The only people I have found doing anything with DNN Mobile sites is mobiNuke who I've read have very bad support and then the people at Bind who as recently as 1 November 2010 posted a lecture they did on DNN Mobile.
Other sites I can reference as examples of what I want to build is http://m.facebook.com, http://cnnmobile.com, http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/i/
I hope this makes a bit more sense when I refer to a WAP (Mobile) DNN site.
Now I have come pretty close to completion of the site but the site fails when I put it through
http://ready.mobi/
The first point it fails on is the DTD, which I've changed to XHTML-MP (
http://mobiforge.com/testing/story/fi...
) but it still complains that it's using the wrong DTD when I put it through ready.mobi.
The second point it fails on is the size of the site. We've managed to switch on compression on the server to try and bring down the first load of the DNN Mobile site but we're only able to bring this down to about 175kb. Way too big and costly for people on mobile phones, especially in South Africa where mobile operators still bleed us to death with the cost of bandwidth.
The speed on GRPS is also about 44 seconds. Who wants to wait around for a site to load on a mobile phone for 44 seconds? Yes, once the site has loaded the first time, the site then loads very quickly but...first impressions last.
Anyway, there is an awesome plugin for Joomla the guys over at
http://www.mobilejoomla.com/ have created which includes the skins for touch screen, and normal mobile phones and controlled by WURFL to sniff which browser is accessing the site. I have used this flawlessly on many other sites when building Joomla sites and nothing like this (except the paid for mobiNuke) exists.
If we could make this a main forum category for more people to get involved in DNN Mobile development, I would appreciate it. It really just seems that nobody's really doing anything from my findings except for a few handful of people.
Many thanks,
James
