Hi,

The only detailed instructions I can find on installing DNN is below but these do not apply to me as I am having to host this on a virtual server.
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/W...

I originally purchased a shared hosting package only to discover I cannot change permisions and so have upgraded to a vitual hosting package so that I can sucessfully install DNN but I am still coming across problems.

I've downloaded and extracted the installation package, created a folder locally called DotNetNuke and put files in there, changed the permnissions for the folder but then the instructions it tells me to:
6. Open up the the web server IIS Console, start->run->INETMGR
AND
9. Right click on the dotnetnuke folder under the default website, click on Convert to #Application, if you don't have that option, choose properties and then add the application.
How can I do this on a virtual server?  I'm totally lost.  If I just upload the files to my server without making the file an application, apparently it won't work.

Any ideas?  Many many thanks.

installing DNN on virtual Windows hosting should work the same as on a dedicated server. Instead of using a virtual directory inside the default web, you should add a dedicated web site, bound to the domain address.

Thanks, Ive gone ahead and set everything up on the server and uploaded the installation files. I get the runtime error messages below:

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration>

 Im a PHP developer and so have no idea about ASP errors. Can anyone help?

Many many thanks in advance!

What does "Convert to application" mean?  This was in some instructions but I uploaded without doing this because I didn't know how.
