I am new to DotNetNuke. I am maintaining a DotNetNuke website. Recently I updated a desktop module DLL. What is the best way to install the updated dll?

What do you mean you have updated a desktop module DLL? Do you have changed the code and compiled it?

If yes, all you need is to copy the dll from ~/dektopmodules/theModule/bin to ~/bin. I hope that helps, this is not the most elegant solution but it will do its job.

usually modules are not developed on production servers, so they need to be transferred. DotNetNuke defined a special format for this, calles PA (Private Assembly). This is a zip file, containing all necessary files and instructions, how to install them, including database modifications. Please refer to the module developer guide for details.

To install a PA on a production site, log in as host, in Host menu select Module Definitions and choose "Upload New Module" from the action menu. Browse for the PA zip file and upload it. Check the install module for errors - if there are none, you are done (otherwise contact the developer).
