running on a dedicated app pool should be preferred, not to affect other applications running on the server. Usually integrated mode is performing better, but some 3rd party modules require classic mode. How much RAM do you assign to W3P? make sure, app restarts are logged in your windows server log and check, whether it occur frequently. if you have remote console access, use taskmanager to check for application errors (dw20.exe), check windows log for other unusual entries.

It's an Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9600 2.80 GHz

I have run DNN on lesser machines without experiencing this. Also, I'm not having other performance issues with the computer. So I'm puzzled.
