Which DNN version are you using? you should run either 4.9.5 or 5.5.1 Is it a custom module? make sure, you properly validate all user input and prevent any cross site scripting

Most times when a site gets hacked it is because of an insecure web server, I would look at your web server and see if you can diagnose how you got hacked. It's possible it was through DNN, or through a custom module as Sebastian suggests, but it is most likely something on the server itself.

Hey Chris, your really should change your pseudonym ;) kidding aside, it is very unlikely, that a fully patched system gets hacked - but this applies to the whole system - OS, .Net framework and all software but also all web applications installed. Hackers prefer to utilize known vulnerabilities of widely spread software, i.e. Windows and .Net framework but also weak ftp passwords are oftenly provide easy access, While DNN becomes more popular, hackers are also try to utilize known issues of previous versions, i.e. it is important for you to follow the security bulletins and upgrade to secure versions.

PS: be always aware, that security is like a chain, only as strong as its weakest link!
