You could also look into using Open Web Studio from r2i. It's a free module which allows you to do pretty much what you want, including custom database connections. It's free. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but if you are a programmer/developer it shouldn't take long to figure it out. I've used OWS to create a custom login module that worked on ip address and host computer name, a new article publishing system, a random tagline generator, a link posting and rating module, a demo website listing, contact forms. What you do with OWS is only limited by your imagination and programming skill. And it's free. Personally, I love it even though my programming skills are more novice than expert. Oh, and it will also import/read xml data and other data from outside sources like some google api's in addition to the main sql provider and custom connections to other databases. Again, your options are limitless with OWS...

Thanks Rick, certainly a glowing writeup from you - do  you work for r2i by any chance? I'll investigate Open Web Studio, thanks for letting me know about it. It sounds very promising, and it's free!

John

Hi John,

I don't work for R2i either, but I've had great success with OWS.  I can also say that I wouldn't have got very far if I hadn't taken out a DNN Creative subscription; Paul Deschenes OWS tutorials really got  me started off.
