Right... when you said that Express could run on a remote machine I made the assumption that you could still use dynamic file attachment. But now I understand that isn't possible.

So getting back to my original question... if you re-read my very first post in this thread, can you suggest anything else that I might have done wrong? Or is it likely to be something wrong with the host?

Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

The main information for you:
Sql Server 2005 Express has to be installed on your local server if you want to use variant 1). Otherwise there is no difference between sql 2000, sql 2005 or sql 2005 express

No. You need a valid connection string pointing to an existing sql server where you database has been setup.

Your host seems to be ok. It is the typical error message that you get when it can't access the database.

So if I assume they have SQL Server Express installed on my hosting machine then the problem must lie with the webhost because I am using the default DNN Express connection string which would work if Express was installed correctly locally?

No, it does not have to!

You have written that you have deployed your DNN 4.0.3 site. I don't know how you did this, but I would assume the following:

  1. You have installed DNN 4.0.3 on your local host in the root of your iis or using web Express folder setup
  2. DNN 4.0.3. is running successful on local host either using iis or web express
  3. You have added pages and basic content.
  4. You have transfered all these files of your installation to the new server into the iis root

Was you deployment of that kind?

Mostly correct, but in addition as I said in the first post, I first added the new http alias before transfering to the new server. Obviously I have no idea whether it is the IIS root or not, but it is in the same place as the index.html page for the sub domain bridge.daleburrell.com.
