We are looking for the best way to have some dynamic questions on the registration page.

Goal:  The user MUST select an item from a list of items in a drop down box during registration.  Based on that selection, some other fields would be displayed dynamically that would require further input.

For example, suppose there is a required drop down called Select Vehicle, with the choices:
Truck
Car
Bike
Skateboard

Then, if the user selects Truck or Car, the registration screen would display a text field in which they MUST enter the make of the car, for example, "Ford".

If the user selects bike, the Registration screen would display a check box which the user must check.  (The check box would say something like "I accept the terms and conditions..."

If the user selects Skateboard, the registration screen would not display any further items in association with the Vehicle choice.  In other words, other fields would NOT be dynamically displayed.

===========================

So, any suggestions on what the best approach would be?

Create a custom module to use in place of the default Registration page, using Javascript to validate the input?

Of couse, I would have to learn how to create a custom module in teh process.

Thanks!

maybe you should checkout some existing 3rd party modules first, e.g. from www.datasprings.com

Hi

I think as per your requirements you need to build a custom Registration module.

Thanks

why dnn registration module not extensible? so far i have worked with many websites and all of them had different set of requirement for registration process. isn't it a good idea to make it completely extensible?

As such - this sort of functionality is not part of the core - there are some
3rd party modules that do offer the sort of functionality you are talking about however.

Ive long thought that a templatable registration module integrated into the core would be a good thing ... but at the moment that is not something that is on the DNN roadmap.

In essence what it would take would be someone or a group of people willing to develop such a module and offer it to the dnn community for incorporation into the core.  But sadly - since DNN has been corporatised that is much less likely to happen these days.
