Hi, I'm writing a new DNN module and I understand you can write them in Silverlight? I haven't actually had much to do with Silverlight. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to decide whether to use Silverlight or standard ASP.NET.

Is it just a matter of personal preference or are they suited to different scenarios?

Thanks!

Talk about opening a can o worms :)  Its pretty easy to host silverlight in DNN modules so the question really comes donw to why are you considering Silverlight?  Its a totally different programming paradigm, very good IMO.  If your module is lots of data entry etc then it might be a good fit.  I wrote Silverlight 4 for Dummies earlier this year which you should find useful.

Yes, completely depends on what you want to do - there's definitely some good candidates for Silverlight within DNN... who is it for - internal or external, what does it do etc.

Hi Philip, I'm considering just because I've never tried it before. I thought it might be a good idea to give it a try but I have time restrictions on getting the module completed. This means I really don't want to go down that path and get half way to find it unsuitable. Thanks for the link I'll give it a look.

Hi Rodney, it's for internal and external users. It's pretty basic, a grid connected to a sql database.
