Hello all,

It's my first post on this forum. I have to say that this community is doing an awesome job. So far I haven't had any troubles with the installation nor the configuration of dotnetnuke. My question here doesn't relate to an error either. I just want to know if the following is possible:

My portal uses an Active Directory module to authenticate/create users accounts. The problem with this is that our useraccounts are actually codes. (ex. HED12345)  So when a user posts on the forum/blog there is no way to tell who made the post.

So my question:  Is there a way to change the way how forum/blog displays the user name? It currently uses the alias to display who made a post. Is it possible to change this to the Full Name tag for instance?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Without coding, you could have users change their portal alias name which is stored in the Forum_Users table.  This is the only non-coding change I see possible.  Unless you plan on supporting any changes you make independantly, I recommend doing this otherwise you will be on your own when it comes to module upgrades.  (Not that this would require much effort to do)

Hi and thanks for your response.

I still want to automatically change the names to the full name. It seems I have to do it myself by changing the module.

It would be great if you could give me a pointer where to start. Since i'm not a ASP.net/VB guru, I could use the help. (Not asking to do the code itself, just asking where to change the code)

Thanks in advance!

ps. isn't it a good idea to implement this feature in the next release of forum/blog? I've heard several others wanting the same feature. Some modules have it built-in also (like NewBlog, dnnportal.de)

These forums are guided by what is industry standard for forums.  It is not industry standard to use a persons real name in forums.  Almost every forum system allows users to use a self created name.  So as for adding this as a feature I don't see a compeling arguement to do so for one and two not concerned with features at this time more concerned with stabilization.

As for the change in the code, off the top of my head I am not sure where but I would look where it creates a forum users entry and assigns the alias based on username.  I would simply change it to use the firstname and lastname and boom you are finished.  Alias is there to allow users to display something other than username.
