I'm having real trouble installing 4.0.3.  It keeps saying access to web.config is denied.  I'm running on XP Professional and NETWORK SERVICE has modify and write permission on the Website root.  I've checked that this is carried over to the web.config itself and it is.  I've also made sure web.config isn't open in any other applications.

Anybody have any ideas?

Rob.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but you need to use the ASP.NET instead of NETWORK SERVICES on windows XP for folder access permissions.  Try this and see if that fixes it.

Good luck,

Yep, XP uses the ASPNET user. Now, I've had this problem before when everything did (supposedly) have access. I created a new directory and copied a freshly downloaded install package to the directory and started the install from scratch. This fixed the problem. Not really sure what it was. If double-checking the user doesn't help, try that.

D'oh.  Of course.  That works fine.

I'll try to follow the instructions in future.

Hi Rob
Just had the same problem with 3.2.2, web.config is denied, couldn't find the right security tab to add the ASPNET user, ended up going into safe mode then adding the security permissions to the root of the drive (only a laptop for demo use) have since been able to load 3.2.2 a number of times without any issues think it was how the laptop use loaded that caused the issues
hope this helps

Pat
