I am having an issue with the dnn favicon showing on a site I am working on.

I have replaced all .ico file with theirs, I have also made a favicon.gif. but here is the extremely odd issue.

When I go directly to it: http://website.com/favicon.ico the old one shows up. This is only an issue in Chrome. I have cleared all browsing history and I still get that icon. Is there a reason for something like that?

When replacing the favicon.ico file you should put it in the portals/0 folder for a site (assuming portalid=0). I would also recommend that you remove the favicon.ico file from the root of the site.

please be aware, that some browsers cache fav icons and you need to clear icon cache to get it displayed.

Adding to Leupold

If you have website bookmarked in your favourites clearing the cache in some browser will not help.

You will have to remove the site first and clear the cache to view updated icon.

Thanks Chris! Putting favicon.ico in /Portals/0/ did the trick! In my Website, I put my own icon in /httpdocs/ (root). It worked fine in Firefox and Chrome, but IE would stubbornly continue to show the DNN 'propeller' icon. Even after clearing the cache. I even clobbered 'DotNetNuke.ico' with my own icon. Still no go. What's a mystery is where in the .ASPX file that gets downloaded to the browser, is there any reference to the icons?? Thanks again.
