Kimberly,

I notice in Section 12 of your installation tips the settings are still within comment strings. Did you remove these strings before you ran the installation? If so, did you comment out or delete the previous settings that are set as default.

Thanks,

Kevin

I followed this to the letter, with only the following differences:

  • Used the Starter Kit template
  • Running on Windows XP

I got the following error when I ran the first time:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.00.03

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

If I try again, I get this error:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

Thoughts?  For such a commonly used program, I'm surprised the installation isn't more streamlined.

As for the first error, no idea.

As for the second one, the answer (at least for me) is in the fourth post down from the top.  I hope this helps you.

any tips on the upgrade error (invalid name for key attachdbfilename) when using SQL Express?  There is no place in the connection string for Express to indicate a userid and password.  Are we suppose to change the |DataDirectory|Database.mdf portion to match the database we created earlier?  I'm sooo confused.  The install doc seems to cover only installing using SQL Server, not the express version.

<edit>  I finally got something working, partly with the help of your post kimberly.  I'm going to start a new post describing my particular problems and solution after my nerves settle a bit! </edit>
