Hi Guys,
we have 2 webservers web1 , web 2
On web1 we have DNN v5 with about 5 portals . On web2 we have DNN4 with 2 portals.

I need to transfer portals from web2 to web1. .
I assume web2 needs to be upgraded to  DNN5 first..?

Is this possible todo at portal level ?
Ie: intergrate one portal into another DNN site ?

Current backup procedure says to backup and then restore sql db  and backup and restore entire webdirectory.

But I am trying to integrate one portal on one web sevver into and existing DNN5 site..

Any help appretiated..

Ray..

no, you can't transfer portals without loosing some of the data.

Hiya, and thx for the reply..

What data would be lost ?
Would I need to create the portal again on the new server ?

How would you go about doing this even if its manual ?

Thx,
Ray..

you may clone you dnn installation and remove unwanted portals of either copy, to separate a portal from an installation, but there is no real option to merge multiple portals into one installation except export as a template and creating a new site with same content (but w/o same user base).

Hiya Sebastian, My user base is just 2 users so thats not an issue.
I did the following.. Can I have your opinion on weather this is ok to do?

I exported portal in DNN4 to template ( 2 Files)
I copied these 2 files to DNN5 "Portals\_default"
I created a new portal on DNN5
I imported the template ( I got an error regarding skins missing)
I copied skin and container folder from DNN4 site to DNN5 site
I just need to create new user accounts on DNN5 similar to those on DNN4

What you think..
The site looks likes its ok..Few images missing but I can tidy up the links
