We've gotten DNN up and running.  However, when I was off of our LAN, the site was throwing NullReferenceException(s).  It turns out, that when we set up DNN, we used a LAN friendly url: "dev-cms".  However, when I am off network, I have to put in the full URL: "dev-cms.something.edu".  Is there an easy way/setting to change the site so this error no longer occurs including all of the child portals when I am off the LAN?

As a curiosity, why is this error happening? In IIS7, we have the site bound to both dev-cms and dev-cms.something.edu.  It works for getting me there, but dnn doesn't like it.

Thanks,
-Steve

you just need to ensure that whatever URL you request the site on is a valid portal alias - in your case you would just ensure that dev-cms and dev-cms.something.edu were portal alias's of the same portal - see the wiki for more http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Portal-alias/Default.aspx
