After tinkering futher - I can get the function to work only by setting the 'asReference' boolean value to True.

In order for the function to work with 'asReference' set to False I believe a change will need to be made to the CopyModules function in ModuleController.cs:

public void CopyModules(TabInfo sourceTab, TabInfo destinationTab, bool asReference)
        {
            foreach (KeyValuePair<int, ModuleInfo> kvp in GetTabModules(sourceTab.TabID))
            {
                ModuleInfo sourceModule = kvp.Value;

                // if the module shows on all pages does not need to be copied since it will
                // be already added to this page
                if (!sourceModule.AllTabs && !sourceModule.IsDeleted)
                {
                    if (!asReference)
                    {
                        //Deep Copy
                        sourceModule.ModuleID = Null.NullInteger;
                        //**Amendment goes here
                        sourceModule.UniqueId = System.Guid.NewGuid();
                        //**End Amendment
                        sourceModule.TabID = destinationTab.TabID;
                        AddModule(sourceModule);
                    }
                    else
                    {
                        //Shallow (Reference Copy)
                        CopyModule(sourceModule, destinationTab, Null.NullString, true);
                    }
                }
            }
        }

I have hit this same problem (two years later), copymodules only works when 'asreference' is set to true. Is it possible to create a deep copy of a tab's modules without editing the dnn source code for copymodules?
