I have a module that I have had in production for quite a while.  I made some minor changes to it and have it working on a developmental server.  After the latest round of changes, I wanted to ensure that the .dnn script worked correctly for this module/package.  It installs as one of three packages in a single .dnn file.

The problem:  After packaging everything, I install the packages to DNN and the install scripts list no errors.  However, one module/package does not appear in the drop down list of available modules to add to a page.  It *does*, however, show up in the module list on the extentions page.  Whenever I try to edit or click on the module (in the extensions list), I get the following error in the event log:

InnerException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
FileName:
FileLineNumber: 0
FileColumnNumber: 0
Method: DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Writers.ModulePackageWriter..ctor
StackTrace:
Message: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Writers.ModulePackageWriter..ctor(PackageInfo package) at DotNetNuke.Services.Installer.Writers.PackageWriterFactory.GetWriter(PackageInfo package) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Extensions.EditExtension.BindData() at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Can anyone tell me where to look to find the problem?  This makes absolutely no sense to me, and it had been working correctly in the past.  The only changes I made where to the module functionality, which was working fine on this very server before I tried to package it and install it from the package.

Thanks in advance!

Apparently there is a problem in the manifest file structure or its node values with the result being missing or corrupt data in the package, module definitions and/or module controls registration. I would first take a close look at the Packages, ModuleDefinitions, ModuleControls, and DesktopModules tables in the database to see what data is missing or incorrect.

Against what version of DotNetNuke were the module(s) developed/compiled?

Into what version of DotNetNuke did you install the extensions package?

Are you using a version 3 or version 5 .dnn manifest file?

Does your module implement custom permissions by way of the .dnn manifest on one or more of the module definitions?

If you would like to post your .dnn manifest file I would be happy to take a look at it.
