The Whitespace Filter is a nice feature, but there is a problem:  It messes up the content of <textarea> tags.  Any spaces or returns inside a TextArea should be preserved.

I know that the Regular Expression for the Whitespace Filter can be edited (Host Settings > Compression Settings), but I'm not a RegEx expert.  Does anyone know how to modify the Whitespace Filter's RegEx so that content between <textarea>...</textarea> tags does not have extra spaces / returns removed?

Here is the original RegEx for the Whitespace Filter:
(?<=[^])\t{2,}|(?<=[>])\s{2,}(?=[<])|(?<=[>])\s{2,11}(?=[<])|(?=[\n])\s{2,}

Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

why are you using whitespace filter? use compression (gzip) instead.

Thanks for your reply.  I already do use Gzip compression.  I understand that Gzip improves the transmission size, but I still want to use the Whitespace Filter because:
(1) Some browsers [including many mobile phones] don't support gzip compression.
(2) Whitespace filtering does cut down on the total page size, even if it is a small improvement.
(3) I prefer the "minified" HTML that is sent to the end user's browser.  It looks more professional [both to me and to my clients].  Most large companies [Google, MSN] minify their HTML with whitespace filtering.

The Whitespace Filter built into DNN works great, aside from messing up content in <textarea> boxes.  I'd much rather find a solution than disable the feature.
