Will, William, and Sebastian,
Thanks to you all for your feedback.

Will,
I have looked at the logs and Scheduler setups to see if anything has run when these aliases show up. I have not found anything that is out of the ordinary.

William,
I am running IIS6, and I don't believe that I have any mapped image files. At least I did not manually do it. I also checked web.config, there is no attribute (runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests) defined within it.

For now I will continue to delete these additional Portal Aliases and wait for the 5.6.1 release. Hoping it will resolve this issue.

Thanks again for the insight.

I am also having the same issue and I think it's been what is reaking havoc on the licensing of one of the modules we use because something is creating portal alias's on the fly. One major concern though on top of all this is the fact I see domains as portal alias's that are not owned by my clients. Some seem to be random bogus domains.  I have checked the server for any kind of malware, virus, trojans and it's clean. The admins passwords are all secure so i know it's not someone logging in and adding them.

Indeed, it's a handy feature but implementing it without an "off switch" is pretty annoying. I'm now wrestling with several sites that are having a fit over module licensing and one client's "SEO Consultant" is crying up a storm over duplicated content.

We have modified this feature in 5.6.1 so that you can control how it behaves.  If you designate a default portal, you will be able to specify that the system should use either a 301 redirect or a Canonical URL link so that your SEO won't suffer.  Of course if you don't want the auto-portal alias feature you'll be able to disable it as well.
