I was already writing what I thought would be my last posting in this thread, that I had succeeded in my mission, when the site hung and I had to restart the application pool to get the site running again.

Those last bugs, that do not appear in debug mode are the most difficult ones to debug.

The starter kit comes with a built-in manifest file that says:dotnetnuke version="3.0" type="Module". That causes errors When you try to create a package. The error message says that the Version string is either too short or too long (and not in which file). Something for the next version?

I have corrected that, but I still haven't succeeded in the creation of a package. Now I get something like 'object reference not set to an instance of the object'. I'll have to do some more reading on that subject.

And as I told you in the beginning of this posting, the web server still hangs, only it takes longer now than before I corrected the error in the manifest file. The server hangs, whether I visit the page with the counter or not. But when I remove the counter (not the object definition, only the instance) the issue stops. So, more detective work is at hand.

And with posting, I can close this report. The final problems were not related to DNN but to the fact that during the transmission over VPN to a share on the server, a zip file seems to lose files. It is not finished, as I said, the edit control still needs to be worked out, but I've mastered all I need for this first assignment  and all by all, this has been a very educative experience.

The result can be tested here: http://www.khmersupport.com/NatureTo...
