Hi,

I would like to request if there is a recommended setup for 6000 concurrent users. I know this is a crazy amount but if this is far too crazy maybe is there a recommended server setup for 2000 concurrent users? I have been reading up on the DotNetNuke Web Farm Support Documentation, and there are two configurations:

1) Primary - Which is to have 2 Web Heads, 1 File Server and a SQL DB.
2) Alternative - Which is to have 2 Web Heads and a SQL DB. A 3rd Party Software such as PeerSync is used to synchronize files between these servers.

My resources for the moment:
- 6 servers:
= 2 DB leading to SANs
= 4 more servers.

I'm stuck because I'm unsure which configuration I should be implementing.

Considerations:
1) If I'm using a Remote File Server, I must ensure that it has redundancy in place. Meaning a server in its place if it were to fail and it must have the most recent files in place.
2) If I have four web heads:
--> Is there a limitation on the number of Web Heads?
--> Can software such as PeerSync synchrnize files between four servers?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks!

Blessed New Year to one and all!

Regards,
Christopher TS

there is no limit on web heads to be used, but you might need a distributed caching provider, as provided e.g. by PowerDNN. If you use any file based caching, I would stand away from file syncing and use a commonly used RAID SAN, although it will contain single points of failure.

As Sebastian said, there is no limit on the web servers (I currently have one that has 16).  PowerDNN does have a distributed caching solution that I have yet to see have any major issues when set up properly.

As for your question about synchronizing the files between the servers, what operating system are you using or planning on using?  If you are using server 2008 or 2008r2, you could set up a DFS share among the servers.  This will copy the files across all your web servers and should one or two go offline you will still be up and running.
