We just updated our site to 5.06 Community version of DNN. First thing we noticed that all DNN generated links (treeview and breadcrumbs) are making weird URLs that actually work (pages are available and correct). URLs right after domain have listed random folder names but they are ending correctly. For example:

Not friendly: http://site-domain/Default.aspx?tabid=1795

Friendly: http://site-domain/departmentsandagencies/detroitbuildingauthority/citycouncil/councilmembersaunteeljenkins/Business/BusinessSupport.aspx

How it supposed to be: http://site-domain/Business/BusinessSupport.aspx

This is the same page that can be accessed in all 3 cases. The same thing is happening with all other pages, although "folder structure" following domain might be different.

Turning off "Friendly Url Settings" gets rid of random folder names, but we really need friendly urls.

Another thing that we noticed is that PortalAlias table is getting automatically populated with bogus aliases. These ghost aliases always begin with our domain name or IP address followed by bogus folder structure behind. If you paste any alias to the browser you get "Page cannot be found". Here is the example:

http://site-domain-or-IP/departmentsandagencies/boardofpolicecommissioners/chiefinvestigatorcomplaints/departmentsandagencies/boardofpolicecommissioners

I found similar issue at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/400548/scope/posts/Default.aspx but this is the case with image URLs. We don't have these, but it is probably tightly related.

Something that also can be related is 5.06 google analytics bug: http://www.interactivewebs.com/blog/index.php/dotnetnuke-support/dotnetnuke-5-6-0-bug-in-google-analytics-module-no-hits.

Thank you in advance for any response.

Sorry, no solution here, because I have the same problem with the same version of DNN.

Anyone an idea why this is happening?

this is a known issue of new feature "Auto Alias Creation" in DNN 5.6.0, which should be fixed in one of the next versions.
