While building DNN pages i find that I repeat the following sequence a lot:

1. On my local Visual Web Developer 2008, make a change to the html page that defines the skin.
2. upload the html file to the remote DNN installation
3. Go to Admin | Skins
4. Select my skin from the drop down menu
5. Select Reparse.

It seems that I ought to be able to save my place at the Reparse step so that after I upload the new html file I can just click something and have it automatically execute steps 3-5.    Is anything like this available?

Thanks,
Steve A.

Yes, there are better ways to do it.

1. I would recommend looking at doing ASCX skinning. If you make changes to the ASCX file and upload those the changes are immediately put into action.
2. If you want to stick with HTML skinning, package up your skin. Upload it to the Install/Skin folder then call http://mywebsite/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources and DNN will take it from there.

Take a look at our upcoming skinning class the 25-28th of this month http://bit.ly/DnnTraining

Yes, I've looked at ASCX skinning and I'll probably end up doing it that way. But right now, as a DNN beginner, I'm very comfortable with HTML skinning because it's just a baby step away from the normal web programming that I'm used to. I also like that I can view the html in a local browser from VWD, with skin.css applied, so I can see pretty much what the skin will look like before I upload it to DNN, though it doesn't have the module data yet, of course.

Your step 2 is interesting, though now I have the extra step of zipping the package before uploading. The install link is nice to know about, though. Thanks.

But doesn't this question suggest a nice addition for the next version of DNN: a Macro Generator that lets you bundle up any series of key strokes and assigns a link to it under Common Tasks in the Control Panel.
