Hey everyone,

I've been developing modules for companies since around v4.0.x, but I've never made anything for sale.  I was thinking about getting into it on snowcovered, and I had some general questions for the community:

  1. Do you take any steps to ensure your product is resold (i.e. Using license keys)?
  2. Do you take any steps to make sure nothing it reverse engineered (i.e. obfuscating code)?
  3. Have any tips or advice?
Thanks in advance!

Linc,

Thus far I do not do anything with License Keys, but I have created a system that I will be employing in the future due to some issues that I have had thus far with people over-using.

As for obfuscating, I have not gone there, but it could be.

My advice is "plan greatly for support".  Make sure that you have good documentation in place, make sure that you have a support setup ready, as taht will make or break your success.

Thanks for the input, Mitchel! The only other question I had (something I forgot to add in the OP), is what ORM do you guys use? I started off using sprocs, then LINQ, and am now using EF. Since I wasn't sure if EF is available with some shared hosting environments, I was thinking of going back to LINQ. What are your thoughts?
