I had the same issue after I upgraded to DNN 5.6.1.

Message: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.
Details: Error parsing near '<!DOCTYPE html PUBLI'.
Line: 5

Changing the compression settings to "No Compression" solved the problem.
Is there any ETA for a resolution?

Thanks for the temporary workaround.

Just more fuel for the fire. I am having the same issue. Noticed it when updating users. Set compression to "No Compression" as suggested and the errors went away. This started after I upgraded from 5.2.2 to 5.6.1. Upgrade seemed to have got fine but now I am not so sure. I am stumped, want to turn compression back on, hope someone smarter than I can figure this one out. I did back everything up and thought about rolling back but I did not discover this little error until several days after I upgraded and now there are to many page and user changes, I would lose to much data. :(

Compression setting caused this problem for us as well. Final Checkout in Catalook was failing.

I have the same problem when upgrading from 5.6.2 to 6.0. After setting compression to none this fixed the issue. The compression setting was set to Gzip.

I've seen the same issue in a personal site I recently upgraded to DNN 6.1.1. Changing compression from Gzip to none did the trick.
