The two best pieces of information I could find on this were the "DotNetNuke Skinning Guide" (last updated in June 2006) and the "Basic DotNetNuke Skinning Video" which is recent, but only shows how to install skins and not how to develop them...

I pretty-much understand everything in the Skinning Guide, and have taken the simple example from the end of that and created a manifest for it (which didn't exist in DNN back in 2006) which I hacked from a skin downloaded from the Skinning Contest, and installed it... seemed to go fine, but I get a message "Could Not Load Skin: ..... ..... The ID 'ContentPane' is already used by another control" when I try to apply it to a page.

What I'd really like is just some basic information on creating a skin in 5.6, and/or an extremely basic example that works when installed. Can someone point me in the right direction please? (or any direction that will help me get started)

Thanks in advance,
-Aaron.

the wiki has a ton of good information - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/loc/allpages/Cat/Skin/Default.aspx -the http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Skins/Default.aspx page has links to tutorials and free videos. As to your error, every dotnetnuke skin must have 1 pane called ContentPane, but it can only have one of them, so it's likely your skin has 2, check the ID's.
