We're getting ready to upgrade our prod DNN server from 5.6.0 to 5.6.1.  When I upgraded our DEV server, it seemed that whomever hit the site first was the one to get the "upgrading" page.  Is there an easy way to make sure that I get the "upgrade" page and no one else does, so that I can see that everything went well?

Thanks,
-Steve

You can place an html file named App_Offline.htm in the root folder prior to uploading the upgrade package's files to the site's install folder. App_Offline.htm can be any html that you would like - usually a "This site is off-line for upgrading. Please check back later . . . " type of message - but MUST be at least 526 bytes in size. This file will prevent ASP.Net pages to be served to anyone browsing to the site - including yourself - so must be removed or renamed just prior to triggering the upgrade.

Also, in the <appSettings> section of the site's web.config file, change the value for key="AutoUpgrade" from "true" to "false". This will require that the upgrade be manually triggered by browsing to "mydomain.com/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade" rather than to the usual site url. While modifying web.config I also recommend setting the value for key="UseInstallWizard" to "false" to prevent a causual user to be presented with the install wizard should there be a database connection failure, etc. Instead they will receive the Under Construction page.
