I have the same problem. Localization worked fine when installing the first five extra languages, but with French (or Italian) I am getting the error below. Also occurs on 6.0.1 (started using multi lingual on 5.6.3)

I did some investigations. It happens during adding translator privileges on the first page module. Either VIEW or EDIT privs. Given the code and the contents of the database, it seems that the same translator role is added twice to the list of translator roles and then privileges are given twice. That seems unlikely since the list of translator roles is created from a simple string format in ModuleController. I hope the localization module gets more stable. And I hope that exception handling improves a lot by giving more clues on what is going wrong.

AFAIK, translator permissions are granted automatically and you don't need to assign it manually - although it should show up in the permission grid.
