Hi - this is a second attempt to get an answer or guidance on creating templates.

I am trying to create and save a simple template that can be used to create a table in either a html module or in the blog. The purpose of the template is to stop having to re-create a table each time I add a new blog entry or alternatively to create a nice standard table that other users can insert then add content as desired.

I have tried to save the template as a htmtemplate (added that extension to settings as appropriate) however could not view in Template Manager.

I have also tried creating a html file and posting via ftp, but I am unsure which folder location to post the html file.

Questions:

Is this the right way to be going about this?

Where are the templates saved and accessed?

If there are any tips for young players for using the template manager appreciate your advice or direction to info.

thanks

Miles

It is strange how a template does not appear at first. I remember making to the default template and my changes did not show. Later at work, I wanted to demonstrate how templates did not work, yet I got my new page according to the new template. Clear your cache, restart your application, reboot your computer, I don't know what did it.

Your templates are stored as xml files in ~/Portals/[PortalId]/Templates.

I should be a bit more clear, because I am not sure we mean the same thing with a template. In the control panel under page you will find a button or menu option "Export" and "Import" When you export that page, you create a template. You can later create new pages or change existing pages by "importing" the template.

Some modules also offer the possibility to export/import. You could use that to inport the standard tables in your html modules, I guess, but I myself never used that. Other modules don't implement that interface, the blogs or the forums for instance. For what you are looking for, you would rather have to apply modifications to the skin or implement your tables from within the editor. See the link to Telerik editor in your previous thread.

please note that templates are existing in several areas: there are portal templates, page templates and module templates as well as rich text templates, depending on the editor you are using. Module templates can be created and used via import and export from the module action menu, for content templates please see documentation at the developers' sites, e.g. Telerik.com or CKEditor.com for the editors bundled with DNN.

Hi Marc Thanx yr good advice.

I too have had that experience. I have tried to save a template countless times into template manager & it says saved, but nothing shows up. BUT then today just as I was reading up all the tech stuff on the radeditor & radtemplates I thought before I tried any code changes I wud check if perhaps I doing something wrong - lo & behold a htmtemplate file that I could not see before appeared!

I then tried to save another template but it DID not appear again.

Since then I have gone onto ftp manager and hunted down the htmtemplate file (thanx for location). Strangely no new uploaded template, just the single one I cud see.

I tried uploading the template I cud see in the templ8 manager but IT WUD NOT UPLOAD templ8 - I was wondering if default settings prevented.

I have done it b4, but where wud I go to view, control or change radeditor code. Is that in webconfig file?

Really appreciate what help you might be able to provide.

Sebastian - thanks for your help, I worked out how to do page templ8 via import/export, but this current need is really at the module level.

Again, really appreciate your help as this is almost the last thing I need to make a site go live.

Thanks

Miles
