I am running DNN 5.6.0 and the Events Module 5.1.5.  I am not receiving any e-mail notifications of new events nor e-mail reminders of coming events.

I have checked my portal settings and everything checks out.  I have also checked all of the settings for the module and everything appears to be set properly.  Can anyone suggest a troubleshoot process to any thoughts on what may be causing the problem.

Thanks,
Bill L

Hi Bill,

Just some simple questions to start :-
  • Have you checked in your event logs for any errors?
  • New event emails will only go to users who have subscribed to the module. Have you ticked the subscribe box on the iconbar?
  • Reminders are only sent to users who request them. Have you requested a reminder by going into the detail page of an event and requesting one? Also can you check the history of the DNN Events schedule item and make sure it is running correctly.

I assume by the way when you checked the portal settings that you have made sure SMTP test emails get received correctly.

Cheers
Roger

Thanks for your response.

There is no Subscribe box in the iconbar.

At one point I was receiving a Notification of a new event as well as reminders of upcoming events.

Yes, I did check the SMTP settings.

I did check the DNN Events schedule however, I have no way of knowing if it is running properly.  The help tips generally all just repeat the item label.

Any other ideas?  I am at a complete loss on this one.

Hi Bill,

If there is no subscribe box in the Icon bar (it should say 'Notify Me' next to it) , check what you have the radio button set to in Event Email Settings.
  • If it is on 'Never' you won't get new event emails.
  • If it is on 'Subscribers' you should see the icon in the icon bar, I guess it isn't set to this.
  • If it is on 'Role' make sure you are in the appropriate role.

You didn't ask my question as to whether you have gone into the event and requested a reminder of the event. Without doing this you won't get a reminder.

Cheers
Roger

Thanks for the help.  The confusion was caused by the wording in the settings.  It said Never, Subscribers, Role and I took that to mean Subscribers to the web site.

When scheduling a new event it has a check box for Send Reminder.  I guess that is a non-working feature.  Unless I'm doing something else wrong.

Are you aware of any issue with that?

Thanks,
BL
