I'm interested in generating a viable solution to this, although I think the solution will end up being similar to the implementation found in the Links module where you can check mark the link option:

You can make a javacsript you can put in the Href of <a>
Like this:
<a href=" window.open('SomePage.htm');void(0);">
Click here</a>

It leaves the original page unchanged and opens the link in a new window

But unfortunately DNN always put HTTP:// in front of an external link
And I think that's why it doesn't work

one more suggestion:
Use the technique above in combination with one of the existing redirect modules (?)

I'm in dire need for a solution / work-around to this problem.  Has anyone figured something out that works?

You are the man!  I swear I tried this and a dozen variations of this...  I recently upgraded from 4.4.0 to 4.4.1 and I'm not sure if I re-tested since then.  Perhaps there was an issue in 4.4.0...  Thanks!
