Heads up to the community that PowerDNN has implemented the IIS 7 rewrite module on their shared hosting plan. Doing 301 redirects can be handled with entries in the web.config. This is especially useful for redirecting other file extensions (html,php,cfm,asp etc) to DNN.

Big thanks to Tony and Anthony at PowerDNN for implementing this great feature. I needed the feature and they were quickly able to implement it (within an hour) and according to them, it is on by default for all new plans. Hopefully this post will help others looking for a redirect cure.

Here is an example  of one of my rules:
<rewrite>
<rules>
                <clear />
                <rule name="RedirectRule" stopProcessing="true">
                    <match url=".*" />
                    <conditions>
                        <add input="{IDENTIFIER:{REQUEST_URI}}" pattern="(.+)" />
                    </conditions>
                    <action type="Redirect" url="{C:1}" appendQueryString="false" redirectType="Permanent" />
                </rule>
            </rules>
            <rewriteMaps>
                <rewriteMap name="IDENTIFIER">
                    <add key="/about_us.cfm" value="/aboutus.aspx" />
</rewriteMap>
            </rewriteMaps>
    </rewrite>
