NEWBIE
Hi All,

I'm very new to DotNetNuke, as well as DB programming. I haven't used forum help since back in the days fo GeoCities (anyone remember that?) Anyway, I now have some applications in which I beleive dotnetnuke is my best solution and would like to start playing with it to get a feel. I have a Windows Server with SQL 2005 installed. I installed th dotnetnuke Community program(s) and am now at the stage, trying to just get a default site built. I'm stuck ont he part where I need to connect to a Database. Is there a tutorial somewhere within this site, that outlines step by step what is pre-requisite setup, and where to get the connection info needed?

Just need a nudge in the right direction.

Thank You.

You'll find information on installing DotNetNuke and setting up/connecting to the database in this Wiki entry:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...

I recommend that even if you are using the Express edition of SQL Server 2005 or 2008 you follow the instructions for the non-express Edition and first create a blank database with SQL Authentication rather than making use of the user instance database.mdf file included in the package's App_Data folder. You'll find it much easier when later you wish to open the database in SQL Server Management Studio to learn more about how DotNetNuke stores its information, to create tables and other database objects for use in custom extensions, or to backup and restore the database to move the site to a remote hosting provider.

The video of the DotNetNuke Installation Webinar should also be of help:

Also, if you have not already done so, register and download the SuperUser and Admin manuals here:
