Good Morning,

I've read the skinning tutorial on site and want to create my first ASCX skin. I need to design a multi-column layout that will include both horizontal and vertical navigation menus, with links in the footer as well.

Can anyone provide me with some sample skins that have a similar layout? Are there any free resources that guide one through designing their first ASCX skin step-by-step?

Thanks,
Sid

Hi Sid

I believe that most if not all of the skins from the recent skinning completion are available for download.

Nina Meiers has many free skins on her site http://www.dnnskins.com/

When I get stuck with a bit of CSS my first stop is always the wonderful CSSPlay site http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/

I use Microsoft Expression for skin construction. (Load the skin folder as a website).

 Hope this helps

 Ian

Hi Ian,

I guess you mean Microsoft Expression Web (Ctrl+Shift+O), don't you?

How do you deal with the errors on the DotNetNuke controls, like:
"Error Rendering Control - dnnLOGIN The file '~/Admin/Skins/Login.ascx' was not found."?
Is there a way to solve those error messages?

Thx.

Hi Sid

In expressions view menu/Visual Aids just turn off the asp.net warnings and the non visible asp.net controls.

If this is your first skin I strongly suggest that you find a simple xhtml css skin and use this as a basis.

Good luck

Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your reply.

Turning of the asp.net warnings and the non visible asp.net controls strange enough still leaves the errors on the DotNetNuke controls, like:
"Error Rendering Control - dnnLOGIN The file '~/Admin/Skins/Login.ascx' was not found.".

Many of the controls are outlined underneath each other while on my website they are next to each other. (I applied the appropriate CSS files.) May be it's got to do with the errors on the DotNetNuke controls?
