I'm in the Host => Portals screen. Add Parent Portal.

Is there any IIS preparation assumed? Because whatever I put in 'Portal Alias:':
-mySecondSite
-localhost/mySecondSite

ends-up creating the portal, as seen from the confirmation message and also the entry in the backend SQL Server 'Portals' table, but clicking on the link presented in the confirmation message, results in a 'Page not Found' or similar.

But I don't see a trace of any new web site anywhere from under Inetmgr (IIS) => Web Sites => Default Web Site. Actually I don't know if I should.

Hi Jean-Marc,

Check this document. Page 71 describes the differences in parent and child portals and how to set them up. I believe that once a DNN website is installed all portals will be installed within that website. Double check the documentation for parent portals. I've never set up a parent within a parent but I believe you can. Parent portals require their own domain name where child portals can be accessed by the parent domain name.

DNN does not make any changes to IIS - so if you are creating a PARENT portal - you will manually need to update the bindings on your IIS server to include the new domain.  You will also obviously need to setup the DNS delegation for the domain name.

Parent and Child portals are all hosted within the same IIS web site.
The only real difference between the two is that parent portals are addressed using a domain name while child portals are addressed using a folder name under an existing domain name.

Thank you, it's probably a common pattern that it's not always clear what DNN automates for you, and where it stops at. Seeing in DNN the link to my 'new portal' I thought that it was ready to use! The link is useless and misleading, I'd rather have a contextual help stating the IIS - DNS part to complete. Docmentation exists, but scattered around.
