Can someone from the CoreTeam tell me something about the current plans for ContentItems, ContentTypes and MetaData?

These abstractions possess great potential value, but I  unfortunately cannot see anything concerning them on the road map. There also doesn't seem a lot of discussion regarding the possibilities with such an approach.

In my view, you could greatly enhance the usability of DotNetNuke if you pull this off correctly.

For instance, you could implement ContentItem relationships, which would be absolutely awesome in connection with the MetaData functionality. Or you could implement a common rating or comment functionality for ContentItems, similar to Taxonomy, and so on.

A reply by someone in the know is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,
I agree that ContentItems is a rich, powerful but currently underutilised area, however we do have plans for this. In the 6.0 release there are a few additional API methods getting added to make certain scenarios easier, but beyond that there is nothing on the 6.0 roadmap. However Chris Paterra has been doing a lot of work on dotnetnuke.com modules and has added lots of contentitem related functions. This is being used as a valuable testing ground for the functions for potential core inclusion - at this moment there is a forge site for them at http://dnncontentlibrary.codeplex.com/ , but theres no source deployed yet. I believe we're discussing whether to add them into 6.0, but that discussion also involves the team who are migrating the recent ActiveSocial acquisition into the core, so i don't know the status of it.

In addition all module teams are being encouraged to use contentitems in their next release, at least taxonomy (if applicable) but others if theres a use case for them.

Finally Chris created a tag cloud project that's driven off contentitem taxonomy (http://dnnradtagcloud.codeplex.com/) and a series of blogs on taxonomy that are worth reading if you're new to this area (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/B... , Note: the blog link itself uses taxonomy to filter for the correct set of blog entries :) )
