I also just upgraded to 5.6.2 from 5.6.1, had the app_offline.htm in place, autoupgrade set to false.  After unzipping the contents of the upgrade over my dnn installation, I renamed app_offline.htm to app_offline.htm.save and manually triggered the upgrade.  Several minutes and messages later, when it looked like it was going to be finished, it threw an error.  So I had to set the web.config error mode to Off, and compilation to debug, then I was able to see the real error message:

this line

Line 79: ComponentFactory.InstallComponents(New ProviderInstaller("members", GetType(DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider)))

is throwing this error:

Method 'RestoreUser'

in type 'DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.AspNetMembershipProvider' from assembly

'DotNetNuke.Provider.AspNetProvider, Version=5.6.1.0, Culture=neutral,

PublicKeyToken=null' does not have an implementation.

Any help appreciated... and thanks in advance!

For some reason the installation of the AspNetMembership provider which was changed in 5.06.02 to include the RestoreUser method (and several other new methods related to management of deleted users) failed to install. The new provider is located in the upgrade package in /Install/Provider/AspNetMembershipProvider_05.06.02.zip.

I just tried a test upgrade of a 5.06.01 site to 5.06.02 and was not able to reproduce the issue. It is possible that your error was caused by not first "Unblocking" the upgrade package that you had downloaded and then unzipping it over your existing installation rather than first unzipping it into a new folder then copying all of the extracted contents over the existing installation making sure that you choose the option of copy and replace any files of the same name.

Are you able to restore the site to a backup of both the filesystem and database which you hopefully made before performing the upgrade? If so, I would suggest going that route, downloading a fresh copy of the DNN 5.06.02 upgrade package, "unblocking" it, and unzipping the package into a new folder before copying its contents over the existing install.

To "unblock" the downloaded zip package, right click over it's file name or icon, select "Properties" from the context menu, then click "Unblock".
